Tire Pressure Monitor System
Tire pressure is important for safe driving. Maintaining the correct tire pressure in all four tires decreases uneven tire wear, reduces braking distance, improves vehicle handling, and increases fuel economy. Without a monitoring system, maintaining precise tire pressure in all four tires would be difficult and time-consuming.
Today’s vehicles have an electronic system that monitors the air pressure in the tires and alerts the driver when it is dangerously low. There are two types of monitoring systems, direct and indirect. Directly, there are sensors on each tire. Indirectly, the antilock braking system monitors the pressure in the tires through the tire rotation.
The technicians at Harrell’s Tire & Auto Service check the vehicle’s tire pressure and perform a system test on all the tire pressure monitoring sensors. They then make the proper adjustments or suggest needed maintenance to get you back on the road safely.
